Well...we're movin on up!

We had a rocky start to our week. On Tuesday at 1 am, I began to bleed. The midwife on call sent Jim and I packing to the E.R.

After an ultrasound in the E.R. and an active fetal heart rate and active fetus, they sent us home, with no reasoning as to why I was bleeding. By morning the bleeding had turned to old blood.

I called my midwife as a follow up and she proceeded to schedule me for a "problem visit".
On Wednesday afternoon, Jim and I went to the visit, where we heard the baby's heart beat, which was steady at 148 bpm. Cindy, my midwife, then scheduled me for a high level sonogram to rule out any potential problems.

There was a cancellation for today, so we set the appt for 11:45 am this morning.
Jim was not able to go to the appointment with me, so my friend Jeanne came along with me.

The ultrasound was incredible. We could see the baby's spinal column and stomach and umbilical cord. The hands and feet were kicking and moving. The baby finally looks like a baby!
At one point the baby's hands were bent like it was praying and then it punched outward like it was a kung-fu fighter.

Jeanne has never been to an ultrasound so the visit was a treat for her. She said if Jimmy ever can't make it again, she would love to go in his place any old time. She is such a wonderful person and one of the few people in my life I would have chosen to share that moment with.

The baby is measuring a week ahead, a big baby. My new expected due date is August 1st. So, we are movin on up.
Go figure, I weigh 15 less than I did when i got pregnant. I lost 3 lbs from last week to this week....so everything I eat goes to the baby I guess.

As for the bleeding, the sonographer said that my midwife would call if she found any particular concerns. There best guess was that I had old blood behind my placenta that comes out when I jar my body from vomiting or constipation or sex.

I have a follow up in 2 weeks. I will keep everyone posted.
Until then, enjoy our baby's first picture.
